For the first time in history‚ the European parliament on Tuesday listened to testimonies by former sex slaves in the Japanese military before and during World War TWO.
Three women from Korea‚ the Philippines and the Netherlands were in Brussels to urge the European Union to make a public statement on the issue.
One of the survivors of the brutality said she was taken to a station where military personnel raped her every night when she was only 13 years old and stressed if the world turns a deaf ear‚ it would be condoning the injustice she had endured.
The hearing was part of Amnesty International's ''Stop Violence Against Women'' campaign.
According to the world body's report‚ military control of the sexual enslavery was organised at the highest level‚ enslaving up to 200-thousand women throughout Asia and Europe.
