A high-profile politician close to President Roh Moohyun is travelling to North Korea on Wednesday.
During his four days in Pyeongyang‚ former Prime Minister Lee Haechan is expected to discuss inter-Korean issues with leading officials in the communist country.
His visit follows ministerial talks last week where the two Koreas agreed to continue with various cross-border projects.

The two Koreas are bent on mending fences in the coming months.
Former South Korean Prime Minister Lee Haechan is set to embark on a five-day trip to North Koreas capital of Pyeongyang on Wednesday.
This follows last week's landmark cross-border minister-level meeting.
Lee Haechan‚ who is President Roh Moohyun’s special envoy for state affairs‚ is expected to meet with Pyeongyang officials in charge of inter-Korean relation-building projects.
Lee will hold talks with such high-profile officials as North Koreas number two man‚ Kim Yongnam .
Speculation has it the visiting Seoul official may also pay a courtesy call on North Korea's leader Kim Jongil .
Lee will be accompanied on his visit by a group of South Korean lawmakers.
News of Mr. Lees visit to Pyeongyang comes after ministers from the two Koreas agreed last week to resume joint humanitarian and economic projects which have been suspended for seven months.
Cross-border relations reached a tipping point when the communist North test fired missiles in July last year then exploded a nuclear device in October which led to UN sanctions.
At last weeks inter-Korean ministerial talks the two sides endorsed a six-point agreement on restarting reunions of families divided since the Korean War and resuming rice and fertilizer aid to the North. .
From now through June‚ a total of seven official cross-border contacts are scheduled.
First up‚ Red Cross talks will be held as early as this Friday in North Koreas Mount Geumgang area.
