요약정보
South and North Korea have agreed to hold more separated family reunions‚ and to discuss economic cooperation projects in the coming months.
The agreement comes after four days of high-level talks in Pyeongyang - the first such round held in seven months.
Our Nam Kiyung has details from the joint press statement issues by the chief delegates.
The two Koreas have agreed to resume joint humanitarian and economic projects‚ seven months after they were put on hold.
Delegates to the latest inter-Korean ministerial talks agreed in Pyeongyang to restart cross-border reunions of families who were separated by the Korean War.
They also say reunions via video conferencing will start in the last week of this month.
Three days of video reunions will be held in the Mount Geumgang area of North Korea‚ and face-to-face reunions are expected to resume in early May.
The agreement comes after the two parties held four days of see-saw talks.
They also agreed to immediately resume the construction of a reunion center in the North‚ which had been suspended since July last year.
Red Cross officials from the two sides will open working-level discussions to that end next week.
They'll also hold a meeting in April on Koreans who went missing during and after the Korean War including South Korean POWs‚ and citizens who are believed to have been kidnapped.
In the six-point agreement‚ Seoul's chief delegate Lee Jaejeong and Pyeongyang counterpart Kwon Houng also agreed to hold economic talks in March and April.
The resumption of Seoul's rice and fertilizer aid to Pyeongyang and test-runs on the reconnected cross-border railway will top the agenda of the economic talks.
The communist North has asked South Korea to resume annual donations of rice and fertilizer which have been suspended since Pyeongyang's missile tests last year.
The next inter-Korean ministerial talks will open in Seoul between May 29th and June 1st.
"The two Koreas have achieved a milestone in agreeing to open the floodgates to inter-Korean dialogue but it might be too early to breathe a sigh of relief. North Korea's nuclear program is still keeping bilateral relations in murky waters.
