President Roh Moohyun has arrived in the Philippine resort island of Cebu for the 10th ASEAN Plus Three summit.
Ahead of the regional gathering on Sunday‚ the Korean leader held talks with Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Let’s go on the phone with our presidential office correspondent Ahn Chakhee‚ who joins us LIVE from Cebu.
Chakhee fill us in on the Roh-Arroyo talks.
Minjung‚ the two leaders met for 40 minutes to discuss a range of issues spanning from trade to tourism agreeing to boost their economic cooperation.
And as part of these efforts‚ the Philippines government opened a Korea Desk this month at its Board of Investments to cater specifically to Korean firms with business interests here.
Presidents Roh and Arroyo welcomed this new development with the Korean leader also asking Mrs. Arroyo for her continued cooperation regarding Korean heavy industries firm Hanjin's building of a shipyard in Subic Bay.
This was also a chance for Mr. Roh to explain the Korean government's plans for grants and loans to the Philippines‚ parts of it used to build a railroad in southern Manila.
He also requested President Arroyo come up with ways to ease visa requirements for the thousands of Korean students flocking to study here. Minjung.
