Korea's non-trade related payments to foreign countries are forecast to surpass 1-hundred-billion U.S. dollars this year.
The Bank of Korea says overseas payments for non-trade related services during the first five months totaled 45.8 billion dollarsa 15.5-percent increase from the same period last year.
Non-trade related overseas transactions include overseas travel‚ education‚ freight charges‚ insurance fees and investment earnings.
At the current pace of rising overseas payments the figure is easily expected to exceed 1-hundred-billion dollars in one year for the first time ever.
With the summer months' mass exodus for overseas travel and education‚ figures for July and August are expected to boost the overall number.
Figures have been continuously rising: From 49.6 billion dollars in 2001‚ they stood at roughly 94.3 billion last year.
That's a nearly twofold increase in four years.
Income from non-trade related transactions reached 66.9 billion dollars in 2005s giving Korea a deficit of 27.4 billion dollars.
