요약정보
We begin with the latest downpours that are affecting many parts of the nation as we speak.
The wet front is now making its way south‚ pounding hard with bouts of torrential rain.
Rescue officials fear death and injury tolls that are already at an alarming level would go higher‚ as the rain is expected to stay here until Thursday.
Chang Yeo-jeong has more.
At least 15 people are confirmed dead and 26 others listed as missing following torrential rainstorm over the weekend.
The National Emergency Management Agency said on Monday morning‚ landslides and floods in central and eastern parts of the country forced nearly 3‚000 people away from their homes‚ damaged 2-thousand homes‚ and flooded more than 5‚000 hectares of farmland.
Anti-disaster officials said about 400 people are still isolated in several towns of Gangwon Province‚ as sections of mountainous highways have been washed away‚ making major roads inaccessible.
Some 20-thousand homes in Gangwon Province and more than 2‚000 in Seoul spent the night without electricity.
Officials also said the casualty toll will continue to rise as the country's southern regions are expected to receive more downpours.
The Korea Meteorological Agency has issued a flood advisory for North Jeolla Province's Muju and Jinan‚ while flood warnings have been issued for the rest of North Jeolla Province‚ along with Chungcheong and North Gyeongsang provinces.
Currently‚ these southern regions are receiving about 30 millimeters of rain per hour‚ and are expected to see up to 200 millimeters of rain until Tuesday.
The country's central and eastern regions are to receive up to 60 millimeters of rain‚ and Jeju island‚ anywhere between 20 and 50 millimeters.
The weather agency advises people to keep up-to-date with weather conditions‚ as the downpours are expected to stick around until Thursday.
