Directed by J.J. Abrams‚ "The Force Awakens" picks up 30 years after the original trilogy.
The CEO of the Walt Disney Company‚ Robert Iger‚ said the film will stay true to the spirit of the franchise.
"J.J. is the perfect director for this property‚ he is a passionate 'Star Wars' fan‚ he's someone who respects George Lucas and Lucasfilm and 'Star Wars' in the extreme. He also is extremely mindful of the need to both be respectful of the great heritage and the great legacy."
The teaser was the highlight at the annual Stars Wars Celebration convention in California this week.
"Star Wars Episode 7" is set to hit theaters worldwide in December.
