요약정보
After so much hardship and heartache‚ miners in Marikana‚ South Africa finally have something to smile about.
Workers gathered with their families on Wednesday to celebrate a wage settlement with their employers Lonmin.
Under the agreement the miners will receive an 11-22 percent pay increase‚ plus a one-off back-to-work bonus.
It brings an end to a six week strike that claimed the lives of 45 people and threatened Africa's biggest economy.
Thrity-four people were shot dead in August outside the Marikana mine‚ when police opened fire on striking workers.
But while the Marikana miners are now celebrating‚ other mining companies are looking on with concern‚ as the threat of industrial action speads to other nearby mines.
President Barack Obama takes to the air‚ slamming presidential candidate Mitt Romney for "writing off" a big part of America.
[Interview : Barack Obama‚ U.S. President] "I don't know what he was referring to‚ but I can tell you this‚ when I won in 2008‚ 47 percent of the American people voted for John McCain‚ they didn't vote for me and what I said on election night was even though you didn't vote for me‚ I hear your voices and I'm going to work as hard as I can to be your President and one of the things I've learned as President is you represent the entire country and when I meet republicans as I'm traveling around the country‚ they are hard working family people who care deeply about this country and my expectation is that if you want to be president you got to work for everybody not just for some."
The appearence on the Late Show with David Letterman came after Romney was secretly taped dismissing Obama's supporters as victims living off state handouts.
As the November election looms‚ Romney has stood by his comments‚ but has admitted they were badly stated.
