[Reporter : ] Although today‚ advertisements are respected as an artistic form of creative expression by some‚ others strongly argue that hanging ad banners on historic monuments will damage a country's reputation.
Still‚ advertisers are probably battling it out for the rights to place their ads next to a landmark British structure even as we speak.
The City of London Corporation came up with the brilliant idea of putting up advertisements on London's historic Tower Bridge monument.
Since painting works for the monument begins in November and will be on for three months‚ the corporation decided to make the most of the unsightly scaffolding that will be standing tall next to the structure anyway.
The proposal faces strong opposition from Jonathan Foyle‚ the Chief Executive of the World Monument's Fund.
He fears that putting up ads for junk food on the side of an international icon which stands for Britain's identity will cheapen the image of the country.
The counter argument is that banner content will be tightly controlled with preference going to Olympic sponsors.
Sarah Shourd‚ who was released from a Tehran prison on September 14 this year‚ spoke about her experience.
The 32-year-old American woman was hiking near a popular tourist attraction in Iraqi Kurdistan with her fiance and friend‚ but they were detained by soldiers and were placed in prison on suspicion of espionage.
The trio had no idea where they crossed over‚ as there were no indications of a border.
They were following a well-marked trail behind a tourist site when suddenly Iraqi soldiers who couldn't really communicate with the tourists took them away.
The three were detained on July 31‚ 2009.
Shourd said that the solitude‚ the uncertainty of the situation and the unbearable feeling of helplessness broke her down during those trying days in prison.
The other two still remain behind bars in Tehran‚ and the United States government is working hard to free them as well.
Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz the stars of "Knight and Day" visited Tokyo‚ Japan for the premiere of their film.
The duo spent hours signing autographs and taking pictures with fans who greeted them at the red carpet event.
The romantic action comedy features Cruise as a super spy framed by his government for stealing a top secret invention‚ with Diaz being accidentally sucked into his world of espionage.
The two travel around the globe while running from the FBI and ruthless arms dealers.
Tom Cruise says he is pumped up and ready to play another super agent‚ as filming for the 4th installment of the "Mission: Impossible" series begins right after his Tokyo trip.
Cameron Diaz on the other hand‚ recently finished shooting a film titled "Bad Teacher‚" and says that she is ready for a good vacation.
Even though "Knight and Day" actually opened much later in Japan than in other countries‚ Japanese fans are glad and eager to finally be able to catch their favorite stars on the big screen.
