[Reporter : ] The mysteries surrounding the Mayan civilization continues to baffle archeologists today.
Some of the clues that may help provide some answers have been discovered in Mexico.
A team of archeologists led by Fernando Cortes have been kept busy restoring the objects which may provide some clues to what led the Mayans to their demise.
Six large-scale figureheads that are believed to have been created some 2-thousand 3-hundred years ago are being restored.
These relics found in the archeological site of Chakanbakan in the southern part of the Yucatan peninsula reveal the influence of Mayan culture on other civilizations.
The ears of the figureheads bear several iconographic Mayan symbols.
As the figureheads are wearing Olmec helmets‚ they may have been created under Olmec influence too.
These jaguar-shaped faces made of stucco‚ clay and stone are being re-plastered and cleaned‚ while some parts that have fallen off are being re-attached.
Every year the Arab Woman of the Year Awards ceremony is held to honor women for their outstanding contributions in respective fields.
This year's ceremony‚ sponsored by French fashion magazine L'Officiel was held in Abu Dhabi.
A panel of judges‚ experts in 14 different fields‚ selected the winners for this year.
Fatima Al Jaber‚ the Chief Operating Officer of Al Jaber Group won the business award.
Al Jaber‚ who is also the first woman to be elected to the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce said that winning the award provides her with an added motivation to become a better businesswoman and also to strive to give back more to society.
In the music and arts category‚ Hoda Kanoo‚ the founder of the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation was selected.
Other winners include ballerina Alia Al Neyadi who was presented with the special talent in arts award‚ poet Nujoom Alghenem who bagged the literature award and Mariam Othman who earned the humanitarian award for her work with less-abled children.
A team of researchers from the Physics Department of the Geneva University‚ Switzerland has developed a means to control rainy weather.
Their successful lab experiment involves the use of water-saturated environment‚ created using liquid nitrogen.
Laser shots of around 1 terawatt are directed into the small‚ isolated chamber at a rate of 100 pulse per second.
Small linear clouds will then form around the laser beam.
According to the researchers‚ they will be able to create life-size clouds in natural conditions using laser shots of around 30 terawatts‚ within five to ten years.
This technology will enable people to precipitate rainfall on chosen areas‚ or make the clouds precipitate in advance so that one can prevent heavy rain or hail.
Before this discovery‚ sprinkling silver iodide crystals into clouds was the best known method to precipitate rainfall on demand.
A method that was not nearly as efficient or eco-friendly as the laser-induced one.
