요약정보
Mexico City has been hit by a number of tragic events over the years‚ from devastating earthquakes to influenza pandemics.
But the citizens of the Mexican capital have spirits that are impossible to break‚ and they display incredible unity and strength even under the most stressful circumstances.
And to rally these Mexicans on with his voice‚ Spanish tenor Placido Domingo‚ who lived in the city from the age of eight until he was 21‚ was back in his home away from home to perform at an annual Mexico City celebration.
Alongside Domingo were other great local artists‚ including Mexican sopranos Alejandras Olivia Gorra and the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra.
Other than his amazing vocal skills‚ Domingo is loved for his philanthropic endeavors‚ including raising money for disaster relief following tragic events like the 1985 earthquake‚ and Hurricane Pauline.
During his latest visit‚ the tenor received a medal from Mexico City mayor Marcelo Ebrard in recognition of his efforts.
Despite having graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in the US‚ 45-year-old Mazen Quteishat had trouble finding a job in his home country of Jordan.
The one obstacle that stood in the way of his landing gainful employment was his blindness‚ as the Jordan sorely lacks the technology that enables blind people to carry out tasks necessary in certain professions.
However‚ the driven man overcame these challenges‚ and today‚ he is perhaps the only blind person in the region to run a ticketing company.
It took years of patience and dedication‚ but Quteishat managed to modify a computer program for use by the blind.
With a specially-fitted keyboard‚ he is able make travel arrangements for his customers.
He even trains inexperienced employees‚ who can see‚ how to better do their jobs.
He plans to expand his company and hire more employees‚ as his business continues to thrive.
Former Miss Universe-turned-Bollywood actor‚ Sushmita Sen‚ is determined to see the title come back to India‚ by establishing her new brand‚ "I Am She‚" a beauty pageant wing of "I Am‚" which will train aspiring models.
At a gala event held in Mumbai‚ her father unveiled the logo of "I Am She."
It has been a decade and a half since an Indian representative won the Miss Universe pageant.
Sen was the last from her nation to hold the coveted title.
As part of her determined efforts to better discover and groom Indian girls for the competition‚ she expanded her influence from running an academy to calling the shots at an important pageant.
In the past‚ winners of the Femina Miss India beauty pageant have represented India at the Miss Universe contest.
But from this year on‚ winners of the "I Am She" pageant will represent India and bid for the title.
Sen aims to ensure that the girl that best represents India globally is selected.
