요약정보
It's the first multi-party election in Sudan in 24 years.
The turnout was slow at first‚ but voter registration has been steadily increasing.
At this point around one million citizens are expected to vote in the April 2010 elections.
Voter registration had been delayed several times‚ as tensions between factions from the north and the south continued to escalate.
Internal violence including inter-tribal wars has claimed over a thousand lives so far this year.
Such violence has made access to remote places with poor infrastructure even harder.
This will be the first democratic election in Sudan yet the reaction of the Sudanese people has been cycling between optimism and doubt.
Despite the skeptics officials are proud to note that voter turnout is increasing as more people become aware of the elections.
In Mae Klong district of Bangkok‚ Thailand villagers have gathered to celebrate the full moon festival with an ancient tradition providing a stunning scene of long chains of glittering lights.
Around 100 thousand Krathong Sai Kaab Kluay or floats made out of banana tree trunks or leaves and carrying incense sticks were launched into the river in Mae Klong.
The floats are traditionally made of layers from a banana tree trunk and incense sticks coated with oleo-resin extract.
They are released by those who wish to repent their sins‚ and to appease the water gods.
Some put nail clippings and hair inside their floats in a bid for longevity.
Couples launched their floats together as it is believed that the act can make them permanent lovers in this life.
The festival starts at sunset on the eve of the full moon for the 12th lunar month.
