요약정보
A brother and sister team from Argentina has decided to put a little fashion into old tires.
Every major city in the world has thousands of tires destined for garbage dumps.
But these two designers want to redirect that traffic to the fashion runways in the form of handbags‚ purses‚ belts and other accessories.
Debora and Robert Piwnica first started making belts from the inner tubes of car tires when they were beginning to experiment with recycled goods.
The two founded Neumatica which means 'tire' in Spanish in 2004.
The tires they use in their designs come from cars‚ trucks‚ bicycles and buses. and no part is wasted.
Some items even have patches and valves visible giving their designs a more raw and authentic feel.
The tires are cleaned brushed waxed and polished before being transformed into high fashion.
The two say the wear and tear on a tire makes each work unique.
Roberto says his designs are merely a small contribution in the effort to recycle some of the more than 100‚000 tons of tires that are disposed of in Argentina each year.
If you see a robot scout and a lumbering man dressed in a sealed helmet walking through the Iraqi desert you're looking at one of the most dangerous jobs on earth.
US forces are training Iraqi military officials to perform bomb disposals and are introducing them to new technology that will help local troops boost their defenses against explosives.
The US is hoping new bomb disposal robots will reduce casualties among Iraq security members though according to bomb expert First Lieutenant Clay Kirkpatrick sound judgment is the key when dealing with explosives.
That involves not only working well with your hands but thinking clearly under pressure.
That can be hard when wearing a helmet in the hot Iraqi sun.
The training exercises are conducted at one of the biggest US military bases in Iraq where violence has fallen sharply since the 2003 US-led invasion.
However bombs remain a deadly force in the region.
Last month a bomb disposal accident killed 11 Iraqi troops in Northern Iraq.
Germany hosted the 5th World Rubik's Cube Championship in Dusseldorf with contestants young and old competing for the title in 'speed cubing'.
Approximately 450 participants from 40 countries gathered to challenge many different versions of the game.
Four-by-four-by-four is a contest involving a cube that has 16 squares on each side.
The classic game is 3x3x3 with nine squares on each side.
Fans may remember the first cube from the 1980s when the toy became a pop culture phenomenon.
Syuhei Omra from Japan won the 4x4x4 competition.
The 18-year-old was able to finish the cube in 45.18 seconds.
Twelve-year-old Durben John Virtucio from the Philippines completed the 3x3x3 in 8.78 seconds.
The champions were awarded medals as well as prize money.
