There's no more smoking in Turkey for those in restaurants bars or other such public places.
Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Edrogan is no fan of smoking and he's leading the charge against the nation's 22 million smokers.
That by the way is about half of the adult male population.
But some are protesting the ban saying that it will hurt business at a time when the economy is already fragile.
The prime minister has already banned smoking during cabinet meetings.
He's no fan of tobacco and it seems that despite being the world's seventh-largest cigarette market most of Turkey agrees with him.
Surveys indicate that up to 90 percent of the population supports a smoking ban in public places.
Under the new law those caught smoking where they shouldn't be will receive a fine of 69 lira or 45 US dollars.
Approximately 100-thousand people in Turkey die each year from smoking-related illness.
Officials say that rising standards of living and a focus on healthy lifestyles have contributed to widespread support for the tobacco ban.
Over the weekend New York City's Radio City Musical Hall was abuzz with international artists celebrating Nelson Mandela 91st birthday.
Though he had to address the crowd via satellite from South Africa the stars came out to honor and support one of their heroes.
Aretha Franklin Wyclef Jean Queen Latifah Josh Groban and even French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy were some of the musicians on hand to showcase their talents.
The concert also marked the first ever "Mandela Day": a day according to Nelson Mandela that should be dedicated to service and helping others.
Rapper Will.I.Am noted how he was impressed with Mandela's positive frame of mind when they first met.
He said Mandela inspired him to be a more positive person and to go out in the world and spread that positive spirit.
Stevie Wonder led the concert hall in singing "Happy Birthday" as the grand finale of the event.
A group of Palestinians have created the world's largest Knafeh in a bid to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.
It's a sweet delicacy made of phyllo dough cheese and simple syrup that originated in the Palestinian city of Nablus in what is now the modern-day West Bank.
This Knafeh in particular measured 75 meters long 2 meters wide and weighed 1‚350 kilograms.
Several bakery shops throughout Nablus pitched in to create the massive dessert which fed more than 6-thousand people.
Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad attended the massive gathering of hungry eaters.
The event was part of a shopping festival that was meant to mark a new start to the commercial life of the city.
For years movement in and out of Nablus was restricted for most Palestinians after the Israeli army established checkpoints and military bases around the town in 2000.
But these days many residents are finding life in Nablus just a little sweeter.
