요약정보
In India's northeastern state of Assam locals engaged in a battle of words.
Every year villagers throw out their most creative insults and engage in verbal abuse in a competition designed to preserve a maverick tradition.
The competition drew many enthusiastic participants and observers.
Organizers say the event stems from a local folk culture that includes the prolific use of abusive words.
Participants had to memorize scripts and even the most expert verbal abuse artiste had to practice his or her use of offensive words sentences and phrases.
The act of verbal sparring also took place within a ritualized sequence.
Whenever two ladies were to go face to face in a verbal battle they each brought a bamboo basket with them to the fight.
If one contestant tired she would place the basket upside down and pause the fight.
The next morning they would turn the basket over again and resume the argument from where they left off.
Other participants abused each other lyrically through songs.
Organizers claim that insulting language has played an important role in history.
Britain's Royal Ballet arrived in Cuba to perform a series of sold-out performances.
It's the company's first visit to Cuba.
Tickets to the five shows sold out in a matter of hours and four of the performances will even be telecast on big-screen televisions outside the Gran Teatro in central Havana.
The Royal Ballet will pay tribute to Cuban ballet dancer Alicia Alonso and will also feature Carlos Acosta as the ballet's principal guest dancer.
Alonso aged 88 danced in the United States and Europe before leading the Cuban ballet shortly after Fidel Castro took power in a 1959 revolution.
Carlos Acosta considered one of the top dancers in the world was Alonso's student before he left Cuba.
Acosta said it will be the highlight of his career to dance with the company in his native Cuba.
One South African adventurer has become the first person to circumnavigate Madagascar's 5‚kilometer coastline by kayak all by himself.
Riaan Manser said that overcoming physical exhaustion and loneliness was a daily ritual.
Aside from bumping into sharks battling storms and sleeping in a rotten prison Manser also had some memorable positive moments while on his expedition.
He was able to touch lemurs on land and see giant Leatherback turtles as large as small automobiles swim beneath him in the sea.
Manser is no stranger to adventure.
In 2005 he became the first man to cycle across Africa.
And immediately preceding this kayak trip he completed an 11-month solo kayaking trip around the Indian Ocean.
When asked how he stays alive Manser says his stubbornness and naivete keep him going so that he can see the next adventure.
