Longtime foes China and Taiwan are headed for reconciliation.

China and Taiwan split during the 1949 civil war after the communists took over mainland China.
The current Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou after being sworn in last week is easing tensions with China by pledging bilateral talks to avert an arms race.
During their meeting Wednesday‚ the two leaders spoke of increasing ties in trade and tourism and welcomed Taiwan's relief aid for earthquake victims.
