Hello‚ I'm Jimmy Yu and welcome to World Sports.
Starting offit was announced that the president of the Korean Olympic Committee‚ Park Yong-sung‚ has been elected as vice-chairman of the Olympic Council of Asia.
At the 30th General Assembly of the OCA in Japan‚ Park was appointed to serve for the next four years in helping lead the regional organization.
Park's leadership is largely seen as having been a crucial part of Pyeongchang's success in winning the 2018 Winter Games.
The Olympic Council of Asia is the prominent governing body of sports in Asia‚ currently with 45 member National Olympic Committees.
Coming up this weekend Korean swimming star Park Tae-hwan will compete at the 14th FINA World Swimming Championships in Shanghai‚ set to kick off on the 16th to the 31st.
Officials announced that the swimming prodigy will take part in the 100‚ 200‚ and 400-meter freestyle races.
The men's 400 meter freestyle is shaping to be one of the races of the year with the likes of China's Sun Yang‚ who is expected to give Park some trouble in the water.
Park has previously competed in 1‚500-meter freestyle but since the Asian Games in 2010‚ has decided not to compete in the longest distance.
And also this weekendone of the world's most ferocious rivalries is set to go down at the Copa America‚ where football powerhouses Argentina and Uruguay will be looking to fight fire with fire.
The great rivals‚ who hold a joint record of 14 titles in South America's elite tournament‚ will clash in another classic showdown in Santa Fe.
Now all eyes will of course be on Lionel Messi‚ as the player has been without a goal for his country in the last 15 matches and is expected to give a blowout performance in the near future.
However‚ Uruguay will also be looking to make a strong stand with Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez in front.
In golfKorean Kang Sung-hoon fired a 7-under 65 on Thursday in the first round of the Viking Classic‚ joining Tim Petrovic‚ John Mallinger‚ Brendon de Jonge‚ Peter Lonard‚ and Bobby Gates in a six-way tie atop the leaderboard.
Most players left Annandale in a good mood‚ thanks to a slew of birdies that led to 106 players finishing at par or better‚ including 18 with bogey-free rounds.
MeanwhileTiger Woods is apparently planning to play some golf before the end of summer.
It was reported that the superstar will play on Aug. 31st in a mixed-team charity event although Woods‚ who is recovering from an injured leg‚ has not yet confirmed his participation.
The event in New York will raise money for charities aiding Native American youth.
Moving unto the Tour de FranceSamuel Sanchez emerged victorious in the 12th stage on Thursday in one of the most difficult rides on the Tour.
Sanchez‚ who finished fourth overall last year‚ roughed it out in the 211-kilometer trek featuring two of the toughest climbs in the Pyrenees.
The Olympic champion made his move on the last of three climbs‚ finishing ahead of his breakaway companion Jelle Vanendert of Belgium.
Meanwhile‚ Frenchman Thomas Voeckler managed to retain the lead and the yellow jersey.
And in baseballthe steroid issue just keeps getting more and more messy as a judge declared a mistrial on Thursday in the perjury trial of baseball great Roger Clemens.
This development came about as prosecutors apparently violated an order that barred certain information from being introduced to the jury.
The mistrial is a major setback for the government‚ which spent over a year preparing for the case.
So what's next
