Day Four of the Vancouver Winter Games and Korea has moved up a notch and is right behind Germany.
With the addition of another gold medal in day four of the Vancouver Olympic Games‚ Korea has risen to second place in gold medal standings with three gold medals.
Lee Sang-hwa won the 500 meter speed skating event and helped Korea get to second place‚ just behind Germany.
Germany is in first place with three gold medals‚ four silver and two bronze medals for a total of nine while Switzerland has been pushed back to third after adding just one bronze in day four.
The red‚ white and blue did not add any medals in day four and was pushed back to fourth place while Oympic host Canada is in fifth with two golds‚ two silvers and one bronze.
With medals there is also prize money and the 50% bonus promised by Lee Kun-hee on top of the prize money given to the Korean medalists‚ it has to be good to medal.
Tomorrow there are several events to keep an eye out for‚ the men's snowboard halfpipe‚ women's 500 meter short track‚ men's 1000 and 5000 meter short track and the women's cross country individual sprint classic where Korean athletes will once again rise to the challenge.
The Canadian hockey team demolished Norway 8-0 in their first match of this Olympics.
Canada began their campaign for the gold medal that matters more than any other to the Olympic hosts.
Many fans believe the games can be considered a success only if Canada wins the hockey tournament as this is the sport for Canadians.
Hockey is so big in Canada that hundreds of fans who couldn't score tickets for the game watched it live on screen in nearby venues.
The NHL even shut down for the Olympic break and the world's top players are now in Vancouver for what many are calling the greatest hockey tournament of all-time.
Manchester United defeated AC Milan thanks two two Wayne Rooney headers halfway in the second half in their Champions League final 16 match.
Milan got off to an eaerly lead after a free kick from former United David Beckham to Ronaldinho's volley bounced off Michael Carrick and into the net.
Park Ji-sung started in this match and provided the necessary plays to keep the Milan offense at bay to allow Manchester the second half comeback.
Although Park didn't score‚ his full time play prooved beneficial to Man-U.
This match could have ended bad for United but Rooney headers did the trick to move into the final eight.
The 2009 Player of the Year race was the closest ever‚ with one point separating winner Lorena Ochoa from Jiyai Shin‚ who was trying to become the first Korean to win the honor.
And possibly the most prestigious of all sports awards are the Laureus Sports Awards.
These are given annually to sportsmen and sportswomen who have excelled in sport over the previous 12 months and Shin Jiyai has been nominated for the Breakthrough of the Year award.
Other Nominees for the Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award include Formula One World Champion Jenson Button‚ Tour de France cyclist Mark Cavendish and diver Tom Daley. Also nominated are Argentina's winner of the US Open tennis star Juan Martin del Potro and German football team VFL Wolfsburg.
Shin's name is on the list with some of the greatest in the world.
