Well it seems the US Open is yielding a few surprises here and there and it also happens to be the hottest thing right now
Let's take it to Flushing Meadows
A surprise to many‚ Serbian 11th seed Ana Ivanovic was knocked out of the US Open in the first round to the surprise of many by little known Ukrainian Kateryna Bondarenko
Ivanovic was beaten in the opening round of a major for the first time in her career
Maria Sharapova who was struggling before the Open made a stylish return reaching the second round in two sets as number one ranked Dinara Safina barely looked like a top player‚ stumbling her way to the second round
Second seed Andy Murray played a patient match to book his second round slot as Novak Djokovic made an impressive start to his US Open title bid
Djokovic was the runner up in 2007 and was on top of his game and hungry for the championship
The Huh Jung-moo squad consists of twenty three players and if you were to take out the goalkeepers from the mix‚ the number of foreign based players are exactly the same as the number of K-leaguers
Ten on ten and they are all fighting for the starting position and the competition is fierce between them
There was an even mix in the past on the starting lineup but with the number of foreign leaguers and K-leaguers‚ the squad members are literally fighting and auditioning for the starting position
It seems this was also Huh's strategy for players to really earn their spot on the playing field and only time and the player's efforts will tell who will be taking the field representing Korea against Australia
And in European soccer‚ Axel Witsel may not be able to participate in the Champions League matches after the Belgian football association decided to suspend him for a foul that broke an opponent's leg
The Anderlecht midfielder fouled Poland defender Marcin Wasilewski who suffered a double fracture of the tibia and will be out of action for at least ten to twelve months
Witsel‚ who won Belgium's Golden Shoe for best player in 2008 will now be ineligible for the next ten domestic league matches and a round of the Belgian Cup
The UEFA could also impose a ban on him for the first four Champions League matches
Boxing legend Muhammad Ali went back to his roots and visited the home town of his great grandfather Abe Grady in Ireland
The three-time world heavyweight boxing champion and also the people's champ‚ Ali visited Ennis‚ Ireland‚ which was home to his great grandfather who emigrated to the US in the 1860s where he married an African-American woman and their granddaughter gave birth to Ali
Ali was made a freeman of Ennis and unveiled a plaque in the street where Grady lived
Ali is one of the most cherished champions in boxing history
