[JeeHyun] Good afternoon Today is Jungbok ‚ which is the second of the three dog days of summer here in Korea according to the Lunar calendar. It is also Daeseo .
[Mark] Interesting. I've heard of Jungbok but I'm not familiar with Daeseo. What is it?
[JeeHyun] Daeseo is one of 24 Chinese solar terms and it's the time of year when we get the most sunlight and the highest temperature of the year.
[Yousun] But Jungbok and Daeseo usually come after the monsoon season is over. I guess we're having a rainy‚ humid Jungbok and Daeseo this year.
[JeeHyun] You-sun‚ you are absolutely right But that's only for those of us here in the central region. The southern provinces are having muggy conditions with high temperatures and chances of sporadic showers.
But up here‚ the monsoon front has been dumping heavy rains on parts of Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces this morning. Now‚ the rain is taking a short break at the moment‚ but it could resume again at any time‚ and here in Seoul‚ it is raining as well‚ but not as hard as yesterday and it should ease off as we go into the late afternoon.
Now the concern is that more rain -- up to 150 millimeters -- is expected in the central region tomorrow.
Speaking of tomorrow‚ the monsoon front will be heading into the south‚ so most parts of the nation will have rain starting early in the morning but that should taper off towards the middle of the day.
The central region can expect another rise in temperatures and the southern provinces will have lower daytime highs.
Right now‚ we have some low clouds covering the peninsula and dropping light to heavy showers at times.
The humidity this afternoon will be 85 percent on average.
And now it's time to take a look at today's readings..
The capital will climb up to 27 degrees‚ that’s 81 degrees Fahrenheit.
Daegu will be a sizzling 33‚ while Gwangju and Busan will get up to 30.
Now for other spots around the nation
It will be sunny in Jeju and the daytime highs in Daejeon‚ Dokdo and Mount Geumgang will range from the mid- to upper 20s.
