The standoff between Russia and Turkey intensifies. Neither country is backing down after Turkey shot down a Russian fighter jet this week. Bruce Harrison joins me in the studio. Bruce‚ what kind of action is each side taking now? Hello Connyoung. Russia has moved an anti-aircraft missile system to Syria to protect its jets and heavily bombed the area where its plane went down. It also said it's going to keep flying missions near the Turkish border. Turkey's made no apologies for shooting down the plane and maintains it was defending its borders and it warned the Russian jet. Aside from military escalation‚ what are the other impacts of the clash? What Turkey may notice most is the burden on its economy. There's been talk of shutting down flights between the two countries and pulling tourists out of Turkish resorts but Russia's first move has been to curb food imports. Russia's ordered a food safety group to tighten checks on Turkish food at the border and production facilities within the country. (RUSSIAN) "I have informed the government of the Russian Federation that unfortunately on average 15 per cent of Turkish agricultural goods do not meet Russian norms." This conflict extends far beyond Turkish produce. It's one of the most serious public clashes between Russia and a NATO ally since the 1950s. Western allies are calling for calm especially considering many are directly involved in the fighting against Islamic State -- whether it be training rebel forces or bombing the Islamic militants. Russia's said it has no intention of fighting a war with Turkey. That would district from its main goal -- resolving the conflict in Syria.
